Book Review: A Contrarian’s Guide to Knowing God

Have you ever read a book and thought “I’ve always thought this way and never could put it into words?” That’s how I feel will Larry Osborne’s book “A Contrarian’s Guide to Knowing God.” Larry tackles some commonly held beliefs about spirituality and discipleship in this book. I found myself highlighting so much that my highlighter was no longer working by the end. I also found myself sending quotes to friends, one of whom went out and bought the book right away.

Have you ever heard someone talking about their relationship with God and think, “why can’t I have a  relationship like that? What’s wrong with me?”

Larry addresses the things that can make us feel spiritually inferior. Very few of those things are based in truth and are often just the way we celebrate certain people’s wiring. The book is divided into three parts: GENUINE SPIRITUALITY, HOW DOES SPIRITUAL GROWTH HAPPEN? and WHAT DOES GOD WANT? Each chapter challenged me to think about the way we do things as a church. I don’t think I will look at spirituality, discipleship and pleasing God the same way ever again.

Larry has written a book that I’ll find myself going back and reading again and again. I will also suggest this book to anyone I know who is in church leadership.

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
