Potential Versus Discipline

We all know the person who has a lot of potential and no discipline to match. Their daily habits don’t match what they could achieve. One of the most dangerous things in life is to be gifted yet not disciplined. We all have areas where our potential and discipline don’t match up. Don’t be a 10 in potential and a 1 in discipline.

Don’t be a 10 in potential and a 1 in discipline.

Take some time today to evaluate areas of your life that you have potential to grow but don’t have the discipline to match. Choose some key areas of your life that you think lead to success: time management, resource management, creativity, problem solving, leadership skills, people skills etc. On a scale of 1-10, rate your potential. Then rate your current daily discipline in those areas. What can you do to grow those disciplines to the level (or beyond) your potential?

If you have a hard time identifying your potential; find a mentor, coach or pastor who believes in you more than you believe in yourself. Have them help you walk out and identify your potential strengths and key skills. If you have a hard time identifying your discipline, talk to someone close to you who will be honest with you.
